Enikö (pronounced (ENN-ik-kah) Kiefer was inducted into the McGill Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
Born Enikö Eva Kiefer in Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., on August 12, 1960, she graduated from McGill in 1983 with a bachelor of arts in modern languages, followed by a diploma in education in 1987.
At age 15, she competed for Canada at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and later qualified for the 1980 Moscow Olympics but did not compete due to the boycott.
A three-time MVP of the McGill diving team, she was a three-time CIAU All-Canadian from 1981 to 1983. Named as the Most Outstanding Diver at the CIAU championships for three consecutive years, she won six gold medals, including three on the one-metre springboard and three in the three-metre event, establishing a CIAU record score in both.
In 1983, she won the Muriel Roscoe Award for proficiency and leadership in athletics at McGill.
She is only the fifth woman -- and the second in the athlete category -- to be inducted to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame.
Now a school teacher, Kiefer has had a marvelous 17-year career of competing and coaching at various diving championships, including the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton (where she won bronze in the 3-metre springboard), the 1978 world aquatic championships in West Berlin and the 1979 World University Games in Bucharest.
