Hall of Fame
On his induction day, Dr. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (MDCM '18),at age 34, became the fourth youngest male selected to the University's pantheon. He was also honoured at City Hall with the Order of Montreal, after previously being bestowed with the Order of Quebec and Order of Canada honours. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive tackle from St. Hilaire, Que., started his McGill football career as a defensive lineman but was converted to the offensive line in his sophomore campaign and suited up 32 times with 29 consecutive starts. "LDT" played four seasons at McGill, from 2010 to 2013, and was a three-time RSEQ conference all-star and two-time CIS All-Canadian en route to receiving the Metras Trophy as most outstanding lineman in Canada during his senior year. One of the team's co-captains, he became only the second lineman to win the Forbes Trophy in 2014 as the male athlete of the year. He also posted some stellar numbers in the classroom, making the Principal's Student-athlete Honour Roll and earning Academic All-American regional status from the College Sports Information Directors of America, in addition to meriting Top 8 Academic All-Canadian honours from Governor-General David Johnston, a former principal at McGill and inaugural chair of the Hall of Fame.
One of two Canadian university players invited to the 2014 East-West Shrine Bowl, a showcase primarily for NCAA seniors, Duvernay-Tardif became the second McGill player to be drafted by an NFL team when the Kansas City Chiefs called his name in 2014 during the sixth round (200th overall). He toiled in the NFL for eight years, returning to McGill every year in the off-season to complete his medical degree in 2018. He won the Super Bowl with Kansas City in 2020 and concluded his NFL career with the New York Jets in 2022.
