MONTREAL – Basketball players
Avery Cadogan of Winnipeg, Man., and
Gladys Hakizimana of Montreal are the McGill University athletes of the week, for the period ending Dec. 2, 2018.
Cadogan, a 6-foot-4 guard with the Redmen, scored a regular-season career- high 26 points as visiting McGill defeated Bishop's 68-56 at the Mitchell Gymnasium, Saturday. A 24-year-old economics senior who played a game-high 38 minutes, Cadogan shot a sizzling 10-for-14 from the field, including an impressive 6-for-8 performance from three-point range. He also pulled down five rebounds to go along with four blocked shots and three steals.
Hakizimana, a 5-foot-7 guard with the Martlets, scored a game-high 17 points with five rebounds and one steal as visiting McGill rallied from a 14-point deficit to defeat Bishop's 65-59 last Saturday in Lennoxville, Que. The 23-year-old social work junior connected on a trey for the winning basket with 1:24 left in the game to break a 59-59 tie. She shot 6-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-11 from three-point range.
