Jade Downie-Landry of St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que., and
Goose Bolton from Darien, Conn., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Sept. 24, 2017.
Downie-Landry, a 5-foot-8 forward with the women’s hockey team, scored points on five of McGill's nine goals over the weekend as the Martlets defeated a pair of Top 10 calibre teams to win the Queen’s Invitational preseason tournament. The 21-year-old psychology sophomore scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory over Western on Friday, then added two goals and a helper in Saturday’s 5-3 win over Queen’s. Her assist came on the winning tally at 13:48 of the final period.
Bolton, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound attackman with the lacrosse Redmen, scored seven goals in two games last week. The 21-year-old economics senior scored four times in a 12-11 loss in triple overtime at Bishop’s on Thursday. The next night, Bolton registered another hat-trick in a 14-7 victory over Trent University. The win moved McGill back into first place, four points ahead of both Bishop’s and Trent.
