MONTREAL – Hockey players Gabrielle Davidson of Pointe Claire, Que., and Christophe Lalonde, from Mirabel, Que.,  are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Mar. 19, 2017.

Davidson, a 5-foot-4 centre, was named to the U SPORTS women’s hockey championship all-tournament team in Napanee, Ont., after leading the tourney in scoring with four points in three games as fourth-seeded McGill merited a silver-medal finish. The fifth-year management senior scored twice in a 3-1 quarterfinal win over StFX last Thursday, then tallied the winning marker in a 1-0 upset over top-seeded UBC on Saturday and assisted on McGill's lone goal in a 2-1 double overtime loss to Alberta in the gold medal game. Davidson, 23,  was named as McGill’s player of the game in the victory over UBC, scoring the winner at 17:31 of the final period. She will graduate with a 137-95-232 record in 181 career contests.

Lalonde, a 5-foot-9, 188-pound forward, scored McGill’s only goal in a 4-1 loss to StFX at the University Cup men’s hockey championship in Fredericton, N.B., last Friday. The 23-year-old had a solid sophomore season and finished second on the team in goals, posting a 14-14-28 record in 40 games overall. A product of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and former captain of the Moncton Wildcats, Lalonde joined the McGill lineup last season after pro tryouts in the American Hockey League (Adirondack) and the East Coast Hockey League (Norfolk).

McGill athletes of the week receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
