MONTREAL — Patrick Larkin of the McGill University Redbirds is the new sheriff of Nottingham.

The 25-year-old native of the United Kingdom has signed a one-year contract with the Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League, the top professional division in the UK.

One of more than 100 McGill hockey alumni to play professionally around the world, Larkin becomes the team's 17th former players to skate in the UK and the fifth to suit up for a Nottingham-based club.

"We are excited to get Larkin on board for next season," Panthers head coach Danny Stewart told the team website. "As a first-year pro, we are hoping he can add some energy to our lineup on and off the ice. He skates well, can play forward and defence, and plays with some grit up and down the ice. We are getting a player from a great program at McGill University, and we are excited to help him transition to pro."

Born in Swindon, England, Larkin is expected to graduate in June with a bachelor's degree in international development studies.

Over four seasons with the Redbirds, the six-foot, 203-pound defensive forward appeared in 82 career games, collecting 15 points, including six goals.

Larkin made his Great Britain debut last season at the IIHF European Cup of Nations in Edinburgh, Scotland. He most recently represented the UK at the IIHF European Cup of Nations in Poland from Nov. 6-8, 2025, where he recorded a goal and an assist in three games. He also represented Great Britain at the inaugural Ultimate Hockey 3x3 tournament, held April 10-12 in Innsbruck, Austria.

"The seed was planted 10 years ago in my mind that I would one day play in Nottingham after I attended David Clarke's camp," Larkin said in a team press release. "I then followed that up with some pre-season training camps with the Panthers as a kid. Coming to play for Nottingham is an easy decision. It's a great building, great fans and the city is great. I couldn't ask for a better place to play, and I am very thankful for the opportunity that Omar and Danny have given me."

After playing for the Swindon-based Okanagan Hockey Academy as a youngster, Larkin spent the remainder of his junior career in Canada. He played one season at Ontario Hockey Academy, followed by two years at the Canadian International Hockey Academy and four seasons in the Central Canada Hockey League before enrolling at McGill.

His father, Bryan Larkin (BCom'89), is a McGill Sports Hall of Fame defenceman who now serves as managing director of CCM UK, the official equipment partner of the British national team.

L'ancien des Redbirds de McGill Patrick Larkin signe avec les Panthers de Nottingham

MONTRÉAL — Patrick Larkin, des Redbirds de l'Université McGill, poursuivra sa carrière professionnelle au Royaume-Uni après avoir signé un contrat d'un an avec les Panthers de Nottingham, formation de l'Elite Ice Hockey League, le plus haut circuit de hockey professionnel britannique.

Originaire de Swindon, en Angleterre, l'attaquant défensif de 25 ans devient l'un des plus de 100 anciens des Redbirds à évoluer chez les professionnels à travers le monde. Il sera également le 17e ancien de McGill à jouer au Royaume-Uni et le cinquième à enfiler l'uniforme d'une équipe de Nottingham.

Larkin doit obtenir son baccalauréat en études du développement international en juin prochain.

En quatre saisons avec les Redbirds, le joueur de six pieds et 203 livres a disputé 82 matchs en carrière, récoltant 15 points, dont six buts.

Larkin a fait ses débuts avec l'équipe nationale de la Grande-Bretagne la saison dernière lors de la Coupe européenne des nations de l'IIHF, disputée à Édimbourg, en Écosse. Plus récemment, il a représenté le Royaume-Uni lors de la Coupe européenne des nations tenue en Pologne du 6 au 8 novembre 2025, récoltant un but et une aide en trois rencontres. Il a également participé au tournoi inaugural Ultimate Hockey 3x3, présenté du 10 au 12 avril à Innsbruck, en Autriche.

« L'idée de jouer un jour à Nottingham a été semée dans mon esprit il y a 10 ans, lorsque j'ai participé au camp de David Clarke, a expliqué Larkin dans un communiqué de l'équipe. J'ai ensuite pris part à quelques camps préparatoires des Panthers quand j'étais plus jeune. Venir jouer à Nottingham était une décision facile. C'est un excellent amphithéâtre, les partisans sont formidables et la ville est extraordinaire. Je ne pouvais espérer un meilleur endroit pour jouer et je suis très reconnaissant envers Omar et Danny pour cette occasion. »

Après avoir évolué avec l'Okanagan Hockey Academy de Swindon durant sa jeunesse, Larkin a complété le reste de son parcours junior au Canada. Il a notamment joué une saison à l'Ontario Hockey Academy, deux autres au Canadian International Hockey Academy, puis quatre campagnes dans la Ligue centrale de hockey du Canada avant de se joindre à McGill.

Son père, Bryan Larkin (B. Com. '89), ancien défenseur intronisé au Temple de la renommée sportive de McGill, occupe aujourd'hui le poste de directeur général de CCM UK, partenaire officiel en équipement de l'équipe nationale britannique.
