Benjamin Carre merited three trophies -- including Team MVP honours -- to highlight the 35th annual Friends of McGill Football awards gala, Saturday. The event, held at the EVO Plaza Centreville, featured guest speaker
Vantz Singletary, a former linebacker coach with the San Francisco 49ers and currently a defensive line coach at Liberty University.
Carré, a 5-foot-11, 176-pound inside halfback from Trois-Rivières, Que., received the Students' Society Trophy (Team MVP), the Friends of McGill Trophy (most outstanding defensive player) and the Charlie Baillie Trophy (best team player). The 22-year-old civil engineering junior led the conference and ranked second in the nation with five interceptions, two which were returned for lengthy touchdowns of 71 and 100 yards. He was also credited with 25.5 total tackles, including a pair of quarterback sacks, and 21 solo tackles in eight contests.
Ludovic Morin, a sophomore offensive lineman from Deux Montagnes, Que., was named as the team's most outstanding offensive player (Friends of McGill Trophy).
Vincent Dethier, a junior defensive back from Boisbriand, Que., was named as the top special teams player (Vaughan McVey Trophy).
Kamba Katchelewa, a senior linebacker from LaSalle, Que., took home the Fred Wigle Memorial Trophy as most sportsmanlike player.
Jacob Dwinnell, a senior wide receiver from London, Ont., received the Adriano Tassone Memorial Trophy, awarded to the top graduating player.
Alexandre Pare, a junior linebacker from Neuville, Que., merited the Willie Lambert Trophy as most dedicated player.
Donavan Martel, a junior running back from Montreal, was presented with the Vic Obeck Trophy as most improved player.
Louis-David Deschenes, a freshman offensive lineman from Quebec City, won the Fred Dupré Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year.
Andrew Seinet-Spaulding, a junior defensive lineman from Pierrefonds, Que., earned the Touchdown Club Trophy as most outstanding lineman.
Dimitrios Sinodinos, a sophomore quarterback from Laval, Que., took the Dr. Strachan Hartley Trophy as the player who best combines proficiency in academics and citizenship.
The gala, which officially marked the conclusion of the team's 138th season of football, ended with a tribute to eight graduating seniors, including team captain
