Box Score
OSHAWA, Ont -- Goaltender Brendan O'Neill, a freshman from Ilderton, Ont., registered 41 saves as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology upset No.9-ranked McGill 3-2 in OUA men's hockey at the Campus Ice Centre, Saturday.

It marked the first time in program history that UOIT had beaten McGill, who had claimed the previous six confrontations.

McGill had a 43-28 edge in shots but O'Neill was spectacular in net, saving his best for the final stanza, where he made 16 saves, including an acrobatic sprawling stop on a one-timer from the top of the crease in the dying minutes. He improved to 2-0-1 in his first three OUA starts with a .916 save percentage.

After a scoreless first period, UOIT broke the ice with all three of their goals in the middle frame. Jordan Ramsay of Pickering, Ont., tallied an unassisted marker at 4:39 but McGill's Patrick Delisle-Houde, a junior from Quebec City, struck back just 38 seconds later.

With just over five minutes remaining in the period, defenceman Jake Logan fed Colt Kennedy of Ajax, Ont., up the middle and Kennedy split the McGill defence, then beat goaltender Karel St. Laurent for his first of the season. Less than two minutes later, Mike Robinson of Stouffville, Ont., recorded his first career OUA goal to put the Ridgebacks in the driver's seat at 3-1.

In the final stanza, Jonathan Brunelle of Boisbriand, Que., cut the deficit to 3-2. The Redmen turned up the heat and eventually pulled St-Laurent for an extra attacker in the final minute but were thwarted time and time again by O'Neill.

St. Laurent, a sophomore who was making his first start of the season, was credited with 25 saves and took the loss between the pipes for McGill.

Both teams went 0-for-4 on power play..

UOIT, which improved to 2-0-1, will host Queen's on Oct.16. The Redmen, who evened their record at 1-1, will return home to host Nipissing and Laurentian during Homecoming Week at McGill, Oct. 17-18, respectively.
