OSHAWA, Ont - Goaltender Andrew Flemming of Quispamsis, N.B., made 33 saves as visiting McGill skated to a 3-1 victory over the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in OUA men's hockey at the campus Ice Centre in Oshawa, Saturday.

It improved McGill's lifetime record over the Ridgebacks to 4-0 and was a much-improved defensive effort for the Redmen who surrendered a plethora of goals in a shocking 8-4 loss at Western the previous night.

UOIT held a 34-30 edge in shots but McGill appeared to be in control throughout, leading 2-0 after the first period and taking that cushion into the final stanza.

Freshman Mathieu Pompei of Laval, Que., netted his third of the campaign when he converted a pass from David Rose on the power-play only 3:57 into the game. Some 10 minutes later, Justin Ducharme, a sophomore from Quebec City, eluded UOIT netminder Bryce O'Hagen of Burlington, Ont., who ended up with 27 saves in a losing cause.

The Redmen ran afoul of the law in the third period, drawing four consecutive penalties and UOIT finally capitalized when Cameron Yuill of Wellington, Ont., scored at 14:08, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

However, McGill freshman Patrick Delisle-Houde, also from Quebec City, doused any hopes of a Ridgebacks comeback when he scored an empty-netter with his fourth goal of the season.

The Redmen went 1-for-4 on the power-play and killed of five of six shorthanded situations.

McGill (6-4-0) will conclude their three-game road-trip with a key game against division-leading UQTR (7-3-1) on Nov. 16 before returning home to take on Toronto and Nipissing, Nov. 23-24, respectively.
