MONTREAL --  Adrian Hynes-Guery of Montreal and the McGill women's heavyweight coxed four rowing crew are the University's athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 21, 2012.

Hynes-Guery, a 25-year-old physical education major was named tournament MVP and led McGill to a perfect 3-0 record at the Redbird Classic men's basketball tourney last week. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound point-guard scored 51 points with nine rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. He shot 30.6 per cent from the floor (11/37), went 3-for-8 from three-point range and connected on a sizzling 94.7 per cent from the free-line, making 18 of 19 shots.

The rowing foursome won a subsidiary medal after finishing fourth of 46 entries in the club fours category at the prestigious Head of the Charles River regatta, which is held on the banks of the Charles River and bills itself as the world's largest annual two-day rowing event. The McGill boat registered a time of 19 minutes, 23.004 seconds, to finish behind TBC Racing (19:16.703), Boston University (19:17.091) and the New York Athletic Club (19:17.603). It was the best result by a McGill women's crew at the event since a third-place finish in 1990.

McGill's crew was composed of Kalyna Franko, a psychology senior from Toronto, Luce Bourbeau, a political science sophomore from the Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Que., Mira Anand, an environmental science junior from Dundas, Ont., and Ronalee Gutland, a senior in anatomy and cell biology who hails from Woodstock, Ont. The coxswain was Kathryn Jones, a nursing sophomore from Toronto.

Each athlete will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
