Clément Secchi of Aix-en-Provence, in France, and
Daphné Danyluk of Rivière-des-Prairie, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on March 6, 2022.
Secchi won six gold medals and broke three conference records while leading the McGill men's swim team to the RSEQ championship for a second consecutive season, in Ottawa last weekend. A 5-foot-11 native of Aix-en-Provence, in France, Secchi was named athlete of the meet and RSEQ swimmer of the year. The 21-year-old management senior finished first in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterflys. He also won the 400m freestyle and was part of the winning 4x50m medley relay and the 4x200m freestyle relay. His RSEQ record times were established in the 50 fly (23.69), the 200 fly (1:55.80) and the 4x50 MR (1:38.42). Secchi also established four McGill records, including the 400 freestyle (3:48.20).
Danyluk won five gold medals and one silver en route to leading the McGill women's swim team to the RSEQ championship banner for a second straight season, last weekend in Ottawa. The 5-foot-9 sprinter from Rivière-des-Prairies, Que., was also named athlete of the meet and RSEQ swimmer of the year. A 23-year-old anatomy and biology major, she swept all three backstroke titles (50m, 100m, 200m) and anchored two winning relays (4x100m MR, 4x100m FR). Her silver medal was in the 4x50 medley relay, which registered a McGill record time of 1:53.74.
