MONTREAL – Michael Luck and Alex Kiss-Rusk, both natives of Beaconsfield, Que.,  are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 8, 2015.

Luck, a 23-year-old physical education senior who was competing in his last ever meet for McGill, won three gold medals, one silver and a pair of bronzes at the Quebec conference swim championship, held over the weekend at the Université de Montreal. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound sprinter finished third in the meet scoring race with 666 FINA points and qualified for the CIS championships in Victoria, B.C., but will be unable to attend due to academic commitments.  He won the 50-metre freestyle (23.06) and anchored both the winning 4x50 and 4x100 freestyle relays. The 4x50 was clocked in a school and RSEQ record time of 1:31.96, which destroyed the conference mark of 1:33.09 set by Laval in 2009. The 4x100 touched the wall in 3:25.15. He was second in the 50 breaststroke and finished third in both the 50 butterfly and the 4x100 medley relay. Luck joined the Redmen in 2011 after graduating from John Abbott College.

Kiss-Rusk, a 6-foot-4 centre with the basketball Martlets, scored 34 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as No.2-ranked McGill swept a pair of games against Concordia last week. She registered 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 65-54 home victory last Thursday, and was one rebound shy of another a "double-double" in Saturday's 72-48 win. In the two games, the 21-year-old psychology sophomore shot 41.2 per cent from the floor (12-for-29) and drained 10 of 11 attempts from the foul-line. She was also credited with seven blocked shots, one steal and five assists. In her second year at McGill after transferring from Virginia Tech, she is a product of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
