Nadege Pluviose of Montreal, and
Pierre-Olivier Avoine of Val d’Or, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on Oct. 20, 2019.
Pluviose, a 5-foot-10 forward, guided the women’s basketball team to a 2-1 record and a bronze medal finish at Ryerson’s Darcel Wright Classic tournament over the weekend. McGill opened with a 62-45 victory over York on Oct. 18, followed by a 67-46 loss to Saskatchewan and a 66-60 come-from-behind win over UBC, where they set a school record by erasing a 22-point deficit.
The 23-year-old transfer from Robert Morris University, is a diploma student in applied marketing. She scored a team-leading 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the three games, to go along with nine steals, six assists and one blocked shot.
Pluviose shot 42.4 per cent from the field (14-for-33) and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Avoine, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound shortstop with the men’s baseball team, batted .545, produced four runs batted and scored three times as McGill posted a 2-2 record at the Canadian National Invitational Baseball Tournament over the weekend in Ajax, Ont. The 20-year-old mining engineering freshman, who transferred from Galveston College, batted 6-for-11, with a double, three walks, a sacrifice fly and a pair of stolen bases. He had a .600 on-base percentage and a .636 slugging percentage.
