MONTREAL – Rachel Leduc of Montreal and Robert Gerstner of Winnipeg, Man,, are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Feb. 23, 2025.

Leduc, a 23-year-old management senior on the women's volleyball team, scored 43.5 points in 12 sets during the RSEQ best-of-three semifinal series that the top-seeded Montreal Carabins eventually won 2-1. The 6-foot-1 power-hitter registered 37 kills, five aces and 1.5 stuff blocks. She added  29 digs on defence. A product of Collège Jean-Eudes, she went on to play at Camosun College in Alberta, before transferring to McGill in the fall of 2022.

Gerstner, a first-year master's student in physics, was the top-scoring member of the men's track and field team that finished second of 10 schools at the RSEQ conference championships, a two-day meet that concluded last Saturday in Sherbrooke. The 22-year-old multi-events specialist tallied 22 of the team's 158 total points in the standings. He won gold in the long jump with a leap of 7.07 metres and added a pair of bronze medal performances. He was third in both the 60m sprint and the triple jump (13.51m). His time in the 60m was 6.92 seconds, fractions shy of the school record of 6.78. Gerstner transferred to McGill last fall after graduating from Western University in London, Ont.

McGill athlete of the week award recipients receive a gift certificate from Poulet Rouge, serving healthy and nutritious meals since 2017. All students can get a 15% discount at the Poulet Rouge McGill location upon presentation of their student ID card.
