MONTREAL – Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que, Que., and Jacob Gervais-Chouinard of Sherbrooke, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 30, 2014.

Oles, a 5-foot-3 forward with the hockey Martlets, registered a hat-trick as No.2-ranked McGill rallied for a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Concordia in CIS women's university hockey at the Ed Meagher Arena, Sunday. The 23-year-old physical education senior was in on every scoring play, tying the game at 1-1 on a power-play at 11:06 of the first period, then making it 2-2 with a shorthanded goal at 19:38 of the second. She added the game-winning goal at 4:56 of the final stanza. Oles currently ranks third among RSEQ scoring leaders with 18 points, including seven goals, in nine games. Prior to enrolling at McGill, she attended Kuper Academy, a private secondary school in Kirkland, Que.

Gervais-Chouinard, a 6-foot-1, 163-pound sophomore goaltender with the hockey Redmen, made 49 saves as ninth-ranked McGill posted a 6-2 victory over No.8 Carleton, despite being outshot 51-17, in a first-place showdown at McConnell Arena, last Saturday, extending McGill's win streak to six. The 49-save effort was a career-high regular-season performance by Gervais-Chouinard who also racked-up 52 in a 3-2 double overtime loss to Alberta at the CIS championships last spring. The 22-year-old education major improved to 7-2 on the season and leads all OUA netminders with a sparkling .941 save percentage. He also ranks second in goals-against average at 1.90.  Prior to joining the Redmen last season, he starring for Sherbrooke and Rimouski in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and earned a stint in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs. He previously graduated from College de Sherbrooke.

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
