MONTREAL – Haris Elezovic from Sherbrooke, Que., and Stephy Tchoukuiegno of St. Laurent, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending, Jan. 15, 2023.

Elezovic, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward on the men’s basketball team, registered two consecutive double-doubles in a pair of last-second losses to UQAM, a 77-75 road setback on Jan. 12 and a 72-71 home-court decision on Jan. 14. The 22-year-old management junior averaged 32.5 minutes over the two games while scoring 40 points with 23 rebounds, four assists and three steals. He shot a lofty 51.9 per cent from the field (14/27) and a solid 75 per cent from the free-throw line (12/16). A product of Vanier College, Elezovic was recruited to McGill in 2020.

Tchoukuiegno, a 5-foot-7 rookie guard on the women’s basketball team, was a key factor in helping McGill defeat UQAM on Saturday to split their two-game series with the Citadins – a 55-48 road loss last Thursday and a 57-55 last-second win at home on Saturday. In the victory, the 20-year-old physical education freshman came off the bench to score eight points in the final 11 minutes, including the winning basket with 9.6 seconds remaining as McGill snapped a 21-game losing streak in league play.
Over the two games, she averaged 24 minutes of playing time and scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds, four steals and three assists. She shot 42.9 per cent from the field (6/14) and made one of her two free-throw attempts. Tchoukuiegno was recruited to McGill this season after playing CEGEP ball with Vanier College
