MONTREAL – Charlene Robitaille of St. Jean, Que., and Alexandre Gagnon of Gatineau, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 13, 2022.

Robitaille, a six-foot-middle blocker on the volleyball Martlets, registered 17 points as McGill defeated visiting Laval 3-1 in a key women’s volleyball matchup on Sunday, improving the Martlets record to 4-2 and moving them ahead of the Rouge et Or (3-3) in the RSEQ conference standings. The 24-year-old is currently working on a diploma in management after graduating last spring with a degree in nutritional science. In the win over Laval, Robitaille tallied a game-high 14 kills with one service ace, a stuff block and a pair of assisted blocks. She added three digs on defence. A product of Collège Edouard-Montpetit, Robitaille was named player of the year in the RSEQ conference last season and merited first-team All-Canadian honours.

Gagnon, a 5-foot-11, 177-pound centre with the hockey Redbirds, scored two goals and added an assist as McGill skated to a pair of one-goal victories on back-to-back nights last weekend. The 23-year-old physical and health education junior tallied the opening goal and assisted on the second goal in a 3-2 road victory over Queen’s in Kingston, Ont., then tallied the insurance goal the next night in a 3-1 home-ice win over RMC. He has four points in 10 games this season, with three of them occurring over the past weekend. A product of Collège de Sainte Foy, Gagnon was recruited to McGill in 2020 after playing for Cote du Sud Everest in the Quebec Jr. AAA Hockey League.
