MONTREAL – The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues struck for three third-period goals, including an empty-netter, to pull away with a 4-2 victory over the McGill Martlets in women's preseason hockey action Saturday at McConnell Arena.
McGill (1-1) and Moncton (2-1) skated through a scoreless opening frame before trading goals in the second. The Martlets briefly led 2-1 before the visitors erupted with three unanswered markers in the final frame.
Valerie Haché notched the winner at 19:01 of the third and earned first-star honours. Teammates Elizabeth Galipeau and Ariane Roy also tallied, while Maritza Labrie sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:49. The Aigles Bleues held a 30-26 edge in shots.
McGill's goals came from defender Mia Giles, on the power play, and forward Amélie Vachon. Syrine Kacem chipped in two assists for the hosts.
Goaltender Audrey Levesque picked up the win for Moncton, stopping 14 of 16 shots in 30:58 of relief. Starter Molly Collin turned aside 10 shots in just over 29 minutes. For McGill, Jade Rivard-Coulombe went the distance, blocking 26 of 29 in the loss.
On special teams, Moncton went 1-for-4 with the man advantage, while McGill finished 2-for-6.
The Martlets return to McConnell Arena on Oct. 3 to host Carleton at 7 p.m. Moncton continues its preseason on Oct. 4 with a visit to St. Thomas University in Fredericton.

MONTRÉAL – Les Aigles Bleues de l'Université de Moncton ont marqué trois buts en troisième période, dont un dans un filet désert, pour l'emporter 4-2 contre les Martlets de McGill lors d'un match préparatoire de hockey féminin samedi à l'aréna McConnell.
McGill (1-1) et Moncton (2-1) ont terminé la première période sans marquer, avant d'échanger des buts en deuxième période. Les Martlets ont brièvement mené 2-1 avant que les visiteuses ne marquent trois buts sans riposte en dernière période.
