TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Que. — The UQTR Patriotes rallied with three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the McGill Redbirds 3-1 in OUA men's preseason hockey at Le Colisée, Friday.
The Redbirds led 1-0 after one, maintained that margin through two, but were undone by the Patriotes' third-period surge.
McGill opened the scoring late in the first when Mikisiw Awashish, a civil engineering senior from Mashteuiatsh, Que., converted on the power play at 19:21, assisted by Charles Boutin and Xavier Fortin. The Redbirds carried that 1-0 lead through a scoreless second frame, with starting netminder Nicolas Ruccia turning aside all 21 shots he faced over the first 30 minutes.
UQTR broke through in the final frame against relief goaltender Benoit Forget. Anthony Munroe-Boucher tied it at 8:26, then Kassim Gaudet tallied the game-winner at 15:18. With McGill pressing in the dying minutes, Munroe-Boucher sealed the comeback at 19:25 with his second of the night into an empty net.
The Patriotes held a 36-33 edge in shots on goal. Special teams saw McGill go 1-for-5 with the man advantage while UQTR was 0-for-3. Between the pipes, Ruccia made 21 saves before yielding to Forget, who was tagged with the loss after allowing two goals on 14 shots. For UQTR, William Grimard went the distance, stopping 32 of 33 shots for the win.
The result improved UQTR's preseason record to 1-1, while McGill dropped to 0-1. The Patriotes will host Concordia on Sept. 20 at 4 p.m., while McGill returns to McConnell Arena on Sept. 24 to face UPEI in a 7 p.m. start.

TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Québec — Les Patriotes de l'UQTR ont remonté le pointage avec trois buts sans réponse en troisième période pour vaincre les Redbirds de McGill 3-1 lors du match de pré-saison de hockey masculin de l'OUA au Colisée, vendredi.
Les Redbirds menaient 1-0 après la première période et ont conservé cet avantage jusqu'à la deuxième, mais ils ont été défaits par la remontée des Patriotes en troisième période.
McGill a ouvert le pointage à la fin de la première période lorsque Mikisiw Awashish, un étudiant en génie civil de Mashteuiatsh, au Québec, a marqué en avantage numérique à 19:21, assisté par Charles Boutin et Xavier Fortin. Les Redbirds ont conservé leur avance de 1-0 tout au long d'une deuxième période sans but, le gardien de but titulaire Nicolas Ruccia repoussant les 21 tirs qu'il a affrontés au cours des 30 premières minutes.
L'UQTR a pris l'avantage dans la dernière période face au gardien remplaçant Benoit Forget. Anthony Munroe-Boucher a égalisé à 8:26, puis Kassim Gaudet a inscrit le but de la victoire à 15:18. Alors que McGill pressait dans les dernières minutes, Munroe-Boucher a scellé le retour à 19:25 avec son deuxième but de la soirée dans un filet désert.
Les Patriotes ont dominé 36-33 au chapitre des tirs au but. Les unités spéciales ont vu McGill marquer 1 but sur 5 en avantage numérique, tandis que l'UQTR n'a marqué aucun but sur 3. Devant les filets, Ruccia a effectué 21 arrêts avant de céder sa place à Forget, qui a été crédité de la défaite après avoir accordé deux buts sur 14 tirs. Pour l'UQTR, William Grimard a joué tout le match, arrêtant 32 des 33 tirs pour remporter la victoire.
Ce résultat porte le bilan de pré-saison de l'UQTR à 1-1, tandis que McGill affiche désormais un bilan de 0-1. Les Patriotes accueilleront Concordia le 20 septembre à 16 h, tandis que McGill retournera à l'aréna McConnell le 24 septembre pour affronter l'UPEI à 19 h.
