MONTREAL --
Mélodie Daoust, a McGill University graduate and two-time Olympic medallist has been added by TVA Sports as a new analyst to their team of hockey experts on the Québec media sports landscape.
The Quebec-based sports channel announced the news in a press release on Wednesday afternoon. Daoust, who holds a physical education degree from McGill where she starred for the hockey Martlets, is currently serving as an assistant coach with the Université de Montréal Carabins women's team while continuing her training in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
"I always thought I would find myself in the world of sports and media. This project fits in perfectly with my post-hockey career and it really puts my foot in the door," Daoust told Agence QMI during a telephone interview with the French language wire service. "For everything I undertake, I have a thirst for learning and it will be the same at TVA Sports."
"I love hockey, it's my lifelong passion," she said in a press release from TVA Sports. "I am therefore very happy to join the great and excellent TVA Sports family and to combine it with my preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games."
Louis-Philippe Neveu, general manager of TVA Sports announced Daoust's appointment.
"Our channel will be enriched by her experience and performance during key moments on the international scene, as well as her knowledge as a member of the coaching staff with the Montréal Carabins women's team," he said. "We are also proud to present a new female face on the sports media scene in Quebec."
Among Daoust's career highlights was scoring the winning goal that helped Canada defeat the U.S. 2-1 in a women's 3-on-3 tournament as part of the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis.
Daoust, 28, graduated as team captain of the Martlets in 2017 and finished her illustrious five-year McGill career with a 116-156-272 record in 143 games overall. In regular season play, the 5-foot-7 centre had a 71-97-168 record in 79 career contests. A four-time All-Canadian centre, Daoust was a physical education major who won gold with Team Canada at the Sochi Winter Olympics. A three-time recipient of the Gladys Bean Trophy as McGill's female athlete of the year, she was a national finalist for the BLG Award as Canadian university athlete of the year. Daoust led the Martlets to three RSEQ conference titles and four appearances at the Nationals.
