MONTREAL -- The McGill University women's soccer team had four players honoured, including two major award recipients, as the conference all-stars were announced Wednesday, by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.

Nathalie Brunelle, a junior from Montreal, was named to the first all-conference team, while senior Claudia Agozzino, also from Montreal, made the second squad along with freshman Leah Simon of Mississauga, Ont.

Simon came away as a triple crown winner, earning the league's rookie-of-the-year honours and meriting a spot on the RSEQ all-rookie team.

The other McGill laureate was Tia Lore, a senior from Richmond, B.C., who received the conference's leadership and citizenship award.

Another honoree who merits a mention is Kevin McConnell, a McGill physical education grad and former Redmen star on their 1997 national championship team, who was named coach of the year for the second straight season (and fourth time overall) after guiding the Montreal Carabins to an undefeated first-place finish.

Brunelle, a 5-foot-6 defender, was second on the team in scoring with eight points in 14 contests. The 22-year-old psychology junior tallied three goals and five assists.

Agozzino, a 5-foot-7 midfielder, ranked third on the team with five points, including three goals, in 14 games. A three-time conference all-star in five years, she is a 23-year-old civil engineering major in her final season of eligibility.

Simon, is a 5-foot-6 defender, who started the preseason at midfield, but was converted to the back-line in the regular season opener to fill in for an injured player and started every game. The 18-year-old management freshman was credited with one assist. She becomes the seventh McGill player to be named as the league's rookie of the year but the first since 2011 when Alexandra Hoyte was picked.

Lore, a 5-foot-7 striker, finished fourth among league leaders in both goals (7) and points (9). The 21-year-old sociology senior topped the Martlets in both categories, earning points on 41 per cent of the team's 22 goals scored. She becomes the fourth McGill player in as many years to receive the RSEQ's leadership award. Lore serves as president of the McGill Varsity Council, helped create a women empowerment program to encourage soccer development for young girls in Paraguay and has served as an organizer for the past three years of an annual McGill soccer fundraiser that has generated about $8,000 in support of breast cancer research.

The awards will be presented during the playoffs, which get under way this weekend. McGill, which finished fourth in the eight-team Quebec league with an 8-4-2 record, faces division-leading Montreal (10-0-4) in a sudden-death semifinal on Sunday at 10 a.m. The other semi features third-place UQTR (7-1-6) at second=place Laval (8-2-4).
