MONTREAL -
Lisa Perrett of the McGill University women's soccer team won a major award and was one of three Martlets to merit conference all-star honours in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
She received RSEQ second-team all-star status, along with teammates
Daphnee Morency and
Cassandra Fafalios in voting conducted by the league's eight coaches
Perrett, a 5-foot-5 defender from Vancouver, B.C., started all 14 games and scored one goal to go along with one assist. She won the league award for leadership, academics and community service. A 22-year-old science senior with a 3.82 grade-point average who majors in nursing, she earned Academic All-Canadian status in addition to making the Dean's Honour List and the Principal's Student-athlete Honour Roll.
Her lengthy list of volunteer projects includes serving as a tutor for indigenous students at the Kahnawake Survival School and also at the Douglas Mental Health Institute in Montreal. The soccer team representative on the McGill Varsity Council, Perrett also served as a harm reduction volunteer for the Red Frogs Support Network in Montreal. She was a city group leader for Church 21, a Montreal-based community for Christian athletes. She has also taught and coached children in Nepal and volunteered with Himalayan Life, a Nepal-based organization that mentors street children.
Morency, a 5-foot-6 forward in her fifth season, led the team with six goals and one assist in 14 games. The 22-year-old native of Boulder, Colorado is expected to graduate in the spring with a degree in physical and health education.
Fafalios, a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper from Richmond Hill, Ont., posted a 2.00 goals-against average with one shutout in 10 games. The 21-year-old political science and philosophy senior posted 53 saves on 73 shots.
Other major award winners included Laval's
Arielle Roy-Petitclerc, who was voted player of the year with 10 goals and eight assists in 14 contests, UQAM's
Julia Liguori who was named rooke of the year and Laval's
Helder Duarte who was named coach of the year after leading the Rouge et Or to a 13-0-1 record.
The RSEQ semifinals are slated for this Friday with third-place Sherbrooke playing the second-place Montreal Carabins and the fourth-place UQAM Citadins confronting division-leading Laval.

SOCCER UNIVERSITAIRE FÉMININ
Dévoilement des étoiles et honneurs individuels
Montréal - Le Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec est fier de dévoiler les étoiles et honneurs individuels en soccer universitaire féminin.
Le prix leadership et engagement social a été remis à
Lisa Perrett des Martlets de l'Université McGill.
Arielle Roy-Petitclerc du Rouge et Or de l'Université Laval a été choisie joueuse par excellence de l'année grâce à une récolte impressionnante de 10 buts et 8 aides décisives en 14 matchs. De plus, celle-ci a été nommée joueuse par excellence de la rencontre à six occasions.
Julia Liguori des Citadins de l'Université du Québec à Montréal a reçu quant à elle le titre de recrue de l'année. L'arrière a compté cinq buts en plus d'effectuer trois passes décisives afin d'aider son équipe à terminer au quatrième échelon du classement.
Helder Duarte du Rouge et Or de l'Université Laval a été sélectionné comme entraîneur de l'année. Entraîneur-chef de l'équipe féminine de soccer depuis 1995, il a mené celle-ci au premier rang du classement de la saison régulière avec une fiche de 13 victoires et un match nul.
En conclusion, veuillez noter que les demi-finales prendront leur envol le 4 novembre prochain. À 18h, l'équipe du Vert & Or de l'Université de Sherbrooke se rendra au CEPSUM afin d'affronter les Carabins de l'Université de Montréal et vous pourrez assister à un duel opposant les Citadins de l'Université du Québec à Montréal au Rouge et Or dès 19h au PEPS de l'Université Laval.
