MONTREAL -- Gabrielle Davidson of Pte. Claire, Que., came away with two trophies at the McGill women's hockey awards gala, held at McConnell Arena's Alumni Lounge, Wednesday. The 22-year-old finance junior was named as the team's most valuable player in addition to taking home hardware as the Martlets most outstanding scorer with 65 points, including 31 goals, in 39 games overall,

Centre Katia Clement-Heydra of St. Bruno de Montarville, Que., and blueliner Adrienne Crampton of Ottawa became the first duo to share the team's most dedicated player trophy. Other major awards went to Kelsie Moffatt (most outstanding defenceman), a second-team all-Canadian from Pickering, Ont., forward Marie-Philip Lavoie (rookie of the year) of Pohenegamook, Que., and sophomore rearguard Emily Davies (most improved player) of Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que.

Davidson won the RSEQ scoring crown and finished second in the nation with 19 goals and 39 points in 20 regular season games. The 5-foot-4 forward scored or assisted on a whopping 45.8 per cent of McGill's 85 league goals, tallying six power-play markers, a pair of game-winners and two hat-tricks. A conference all-star, she also merited CIS second-team all-Canadian status and made the All-Tournament team at the CIS national championship, where she collected four points in three games.

Moffatt was McGill's top-scoring rearguard with a 6-21-27 record in 41 games overall. Lavoie tallied 22 points, including four goals, in 40 games. Davies, who was one of three Martlets to dress for all 41 contests, had two assists and 22 penalty minutes.

The soiree was capped off with an emotional send-off to the team's five fifth-year seniors, including the aforementioned Clement-Heydra and Crampton, in addition to forward Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., defenceman Michelle Daigneault of Hay River, N.W.T., and forward Logan Murray of Calgary. All of them received flowers, along with a framed action photo and their red game jerseys.

"I'm extremely proud of the contribution made by our seniors, both on and off the ice," said head coach Peter Smith, whose troops captured the Quebec conference championship and claimed silver at the CIS Final Eight tournament. "They are graduating with a lifetime of successes, memories and friendships."

Clement-Heydra, an industrial relations major who served two terms as the team captain, is a two-time All-Canadian centre who ranks second on the team's all-time list for games played (206), fourth in goals (121), second in assists (177) and third in points (298). 

Crampton, an alternate captain, will graduate with a science degree in kinesiology. She had an 8-22-30 record in 176 career outings.

Oles, an alternate captain, is a physical education major and four-time all-star winger who ranks third in games (199), third in goals (144), fifth in assists (149), fourth in points (293) and is the team's all-time leader in penalty minutes (324).

Daigneault, also an alternate captain, had an 8-49-57 record in 195 contests along the blueline. She will graduated with a BA, majoring in psychology,

Murray, a major in world religions, posted a career record of 19-38-57 in 188 games overall.

The Martlets finished with a 27-14-0 record overall, including a 21-7-0 mark against CIS opponents and a 16-4-0 first-place finish in the RSEQ conference
