MONTREAL — Sophie Hudson's late third-period marker lifted the Queen's Gaels to a 2–1 win over the McGill Martlets in women's preseason hockey Sunday at McConnell Arena.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Gaels struck first when Jada Wood netted a goal at 17:22 of the second, assisted by Mikayla Cranney. McGill replied early in the third when India Benoit, set up by Chloe Blanchard and Megan Kronwald, tied the game at 2:42. But Hudson notched the game-winner for Queen's with just 1:21 remaining, assisted by Sara Di Filippo.

Queen's outshot McGill 33–9 overall, including a 14–2 margin in the second period. The Gaels went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Martlets were 0-for-1.

Goaltender Emma Tennant earned the win for Queen's with 8 saves on 9 shots. McGill's Megane Pilon took the loss, turning aside 31 of 33 shots in 58:47 of action.

The Martlets, who closed their exhibition schedule with a 2–2 record, will open the RSEQ regular season Oct. 16 at home against the defending national champion Bishop's Gaiters. Puck drop is 7 p.m. at McConnell. The Gaels (3–2) begin OUA league play Oct. 10 at Waterloo.
