Box Score
MONTREAL -- Sophomore forward Simon Tardif-Richard of Gatineau, Que, scored a power-play goal and added three helpers as No.4-ranked McGill disposed of the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs 7-2 in OUA men's hockey at McConnell Arena, Friday.

It was the third straight victory for the undefeated Redmen, who also improved to 13-5-2 lifetime in head-to-head meetings with Laurentian, a Sudbury-based team that split their two games with McGill last year.

The Redmen, who had a resounding 53-22 margin in shots, only led 1-0 after the opening frame and 2-0 after two. The defensive logjam finally broke apart in a wild third period that featured seven goals, five of them by McGill.

McGill freshman left-winger Daniel Milne was the only multiple goal scorer, notching his first two goals of the regular season, including the game-winner at 2:46 of the final period, which put the Redmen ahead 3-0.

Singles also went to forwards Jonathan Bonneau, Mathieu Pompei, Patrick Delisle-Houde and newcomer Rock Regimbald, a transfer from the Ottawa Gee-Gees, who started off the scoring with a shorthanded goal midway through the first period.

Voyageurs rearguard Caleb Apperson spoiled the shutout bid for goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard with a power-play tally at 12:21 of the final stanza, which narrowed the deficit to 4-1. Teammate Beau Williams-Orser also scored for Laurentian, reducing the gap to 6-2 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

Gervais-Chouinard, a junior from Sherbrooke, Que.,  made 20 saves to collect the victory, improving to 3-0 on the season and 28-7 lifetime in regular season play. Rookie Joel Vienneau, making his CIS debut, made 46 saves in a losing cause for the Voyageurs.

McGill was 1-for-8 on the power-play, while the Voyageurs went 1-for-5 but allowed the shorthanded marker. Laurentian, which dropped to 1-1, plays at Carleton (1-1) on Saturday. The Ravens are coming off an 11-0 shutout over RMC.

McGill (3-0) will host the Nipissing University Lakers (0-0-2) on Saturday at 5 p.m. at McConnell Arena.

REDMEN RAP: More than eight minutes passed before the first whistle after the opening faceoff... This weekend is the Friends of McGill Hockey Homecoming... Among the faces in the crowd who travelled the furthest to attend were former Redmen blueliners Steven Pearce and Michael Wells... Pearce, who played from 2004 to 2008, flew in from Fredericton, where he is working as a lawyer with the firm of Cox & Palmer...  Wells, who played at McGill between 1984 and 1989, is director of human resources with MJW & Associates, a consulting service in Toronto... Saturday's Redmen-Lakers game will be preceded by an alumni contest of former McGill players at 1:45 pm and a Redmen family skate at 3 pm.
