KINGSTON, Ont. - Christophe Longpre-Poirier of Longueuil, Que., scored at 3:57 of sudden-death overtime as visiting McGill skated to a 3-2 victory over Queen's at the Memorial Centre, Friday, their second win over the Gaels in three days.

It was also the 23rd straight victory for the Redmen against their long-time foes, who haven't beaten McGill in Kingston since Nov. 9, 2003, a span of 12 games.

"Chris turned it up a little bit in the overtime," said McGill head coach Kelly Nobes, who no doubt wasn't overly pleased with the three minor penalties called on his fourth-year centre earlier in the game.

"He had a couple of shifts there and did a great job on the (offensive zone) entry, got the puck back to (defenceman Ryan) McKiernan and beat his guy to the net where the puck ended up. It was a great finish on a savvy play by a veteran player."

The Redmen had a 47-43 edge in shots but with Halloween looming, it was a night for the men in masks.

Queen's goaltender Riley Whitlock of Calgary, Alta., had 44 saves in a losing cause while Hubert Morin of St. Georges de Beauce, Que., stopped 41 pucks for the Redmen.

McGill, which led 2-0, appeared to be in control for most of the game but a late third period goal by Corey  Bureau of Amherstview, Ont., -- with the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker -- forced overtime.

Defenceman Hubert Genest of Quebec City, put the Redmen ahead 1-0 at 10:19 of the opening frame.

In the middle period, Montreal native Guillaume Monast, another blueliner, tallied to give the Redmen a 2-0 advantage at 10:54 with a power play goal assisted by rookie Jonathon Brunelle.

The Gaels finally got on the scoreboard with 62 seconds remaining in the second period on a goal by Taylor Clements of Toronto, who converted a pass from Kelly Jackson.

The two teams were kept off the scoresheet in final stanza until the final minute heroics by Bureau, which went for naught.

"I didn't think we were great today but we certainly had good moments," said Nobes. "Hubert was solid in goal again for the third straight game, which is a very good sign. We did a good job of getting pucks to the net and we had a whole bunch of rebound chances and should've had a bunch more goals."

Queen's, which entered the week with a two-point lead on McGill, evened their record at 2-2-1. It was the third straight win for the Redmen who improved to 3-3 after an 0-3 start.

The Gaels return to action on Nov. 2, when they host Brock. McGill's next game is their second annual "Score with School" promotion, when will they play host to the York Lions before a packed house of elementary school children in a 10;30 a.m. affair . The game is expected to be a sellout as only 150 tickets remain unsold for the event at McConnell Arena, which seats 950, not including standing room.
