TORONTO - Rookie rearguard Ryan McKiernan of
White Plains, N.Y., scored at 1:34 of overtime as the McGill Redmen
opened their 135th season with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over
Toronto in OUA hockey at Varsity Arena, Friday.
The Varsity Blues led 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by rookie
Michael Markovic and defenceman Sean
Kliewer, respectively, but McGill rallied on goals by
Toronto native Andrew Wright at 16:32 of the first
and rookie blue-liner Hubert Genest of
Quebec City, at 6:08 of the third, to force overtime.
Hubert Morin registered 19 saves for the win as
the Redmen had a decided 39-21 edge in shots. Blues 'keeper
Andrew Martin was credited with 36 saves and took
the loss.
McGill (1-0) plays at Nipissing on Saturday. The Lakers shocked
UQTR 6-1 in their opener, Friday.
