MONTREAL – Elizabeth Ling of Calgary, Alta., and Monty Weatherall from Amersham, England, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 9, 2022.
 
Ling was named swimmer of the meet while leading the McGill Martlets to capture the first Quebec Cup competition of the RSEQ season at the Université de Sherbrooke last Friday. A 20-year-old civil engineering junior from Calgary, she won three gold medals and added a silver to register a meet-leading 624 points on the FINA scale. The 5-foot-4 sprinter won the 50-metre backstroke (29:06) and 100 freestyle (56.63) in addition to swimming the leadoff leg of the winning 4x50 freestyle relay, which touched the wall in 1:46.14. She finished second in the 50 butterfly (28.31).
 
Weatherall, a six-foot, 183-pound fly-half on the Redbirds rugby team, scored a game-high 20 points in a 52-5 victory over visiting Sherbrooke at Percival Molson Stadium last Saturday. He accounted for one try, six conversions and a penalty kick. The McGill team captain, who turns 22 on Oct. 12, is a senior majoring in international development studies. Weatherall is currently tied for first in the league scoring race with 58 points in four games, registering 22 conversions, three penalty goals and one try.
