MONTREAL – Lacrosse’s
Dylan James of Little Britain, Ont., and hockey’s
Jade Rivard-Coulombe from Chateauguay, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 24, 2023.
James, a 5-foot-10, 183-pound midfielder from the Kawartha Lakes region north of Toronto, scored points on six of McGill’s eight goals as the Redbirds lacrosse team fell 10-8 to the division-leading Trent University Excalibur at Percival Molson Stadium, last Saturday. The 21-year-old psychology senior scored four goals and added a pair of assists. It was the team’s highest single-game goal total in regular season play since Cameron McGinnis tallied five in a 9-4 win over Ottawa on Sept. 18, 2022. James joined the McGill lineup in 2020 out of Virginia Episcopal School, a preparatory school located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Rivard-Coulomb, a 5-foot-10 rookie goaltender, made 30 saves to register a shutout in her first career start as McGill blanked St. Thomas University from Fredericton, N.B., 4-0 in a women's hockey preseason game at McConnell Arena, last Saturday. The result ended the Martlets 11-game losing streak dating back to last year. The 20-year-old freshman is majoring in kindergarten and elementary education. She enrolled at McGill this year after playing at the CEGEP level with
Collège de St-Laurent.
