MONTREAL – Eloa Latendresse-Regimbald and Sophie Guilmette, both native Montrealers, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 5, 2022.

Latendresse-Regimbald, a 20-year-old rookie with the Redbirds football team, became the first freshman to start at quarterback at McGill since 2011 and had an impressive debut in a 37-20 loss to No.4 ranked Laval last Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound pivot passed for 381 yards, completing 20 of 41 attempts, with one touchdown toss and a pair of interceptions. The physical education major was also the game's leading rusher with 132 yards on 11 carries, becoming the first field general in school history to reach the century mark for rushing in a game. Arguably the top recruited quarterback in the country this season, he was named as the CEGEP Div. 1 player of the year in 2021, leading Vanier College to the Bol d'Or collegiate championship.

Guilmette, a 5-foot-6 goalkeeper with the Martlets soccer squad, saved nine of 12 shots faced and posted a 1.50 goals-against average with a 1-1 record in her first two starts for McGill last week. A 21-year-old science student, majoring in kinesiology, she was selected as McGill's player of the game in a 2-1 victory at Bishop's last Friday. She turned aside eight of nine shots, including a game-saving stop in the 90th minute. Two days earlier, she saved one of three shots in a 2-1 loss to UQAM.  Prior to enrolling at McGill this semester, Guilmette spent three years with the NCAA's Vanderbilt University after being recruited out of Vanier College in 2019.
