MONTREAL – Swimmers
Daphne Danyluk of Rivière des Prairies, Que., and
Clement Secchi, who hails from Aix-en-Provence, in France, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending, Nov. 7, 2021.
Danyluk, a 5-foot-7 sprinter, struck gold three times, won one silver and was named swimmer of the meet while leading the McGill Martlets to win the third Quebec Cup league competition, hosted by Laval University, Sunday. The 22-year-old anatomical science junior led all swimmers with 637.5 points on the FINA scoring scale. She won the 200-metre individual medley in two minutes, 15.64 seconds, in addition to the 50m backstroke (29.14) and the 100m back (1:02.36). Her second-place finish was in the 4x50 medley relay, where she swam leadoff on a foursome that finished the race in 1:55.01.
Secchi, a 5-foot-11 sprinter, won a pair of gold medals and one silver, in addition to breaking both school and RSEQ records, as the McGill Redbirds won the third Quebec Cup meet of the season in Quebec City, Sunday. A 21-year-old management senior, Secchi won the 200-metre individual medley, clocking in at one minute, 59.56 seconds. It erased the previous RSEQ record of 2:00.00 set by McGill's
Steven Bielby in 2013. Secchi also won the 200 butterfly (1:57.27). He posted his silver-medal finish in the 50m backstroke, touching the wall in 25.01, just fractions off his school record time of 24.52.
