MONTREAL – Louis-Philippe Guindon of St. Joseph du Lac, Que., Jorden Savoury of LaSalle, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on Jan. 12, 2020.

Guindon, a 6-foot-1 senior goaltender, registered 56 saves as the seventh-ranked McGill men's hockey team edged Concordia 3-2 in an overtime thriller before a sold out Winter Carnival crowd of 1.029 at McConnell Arena last Friday. The 24-year-old master's student in exercise physiology matched his career-high 56-save effort from earlier this season, accomplished in a 4-2 road win at Ottawa on Oct. 25/19. Both performances equaled the second-highest save total in school history and was the most ever in a McGill victory. Guindon, who improved his OUA record to 10-4, currently ranks second among league leaders in save percentage (.942) and is tied for second in shutouts (2), tied for fourth in victories and ranks fifth in goals-against average (2.25)

Savoury, a 5-foot-8 sprinter with the McGill women's track & field team, registered gold and silver performances, while breaking an 18-year-old school record as the Martlets finished third of five schools at the Vert & Or Invitational last Saturday. The 21-year-old psychology sophomore won gold in the long jump with a leap of 5.45 metres and re-wrote a McGill record in the 60m sprint, finishing second in 7.69 seconds. That time erased the previous McGill standard of 7.73 by Ria Bradshaw in 2002, a mark that was also achieved at the Sherbrooke track.
