MONTREAL –
Michael Gaudioso of Livingston, N.J., and
Jade Downie-Landry of St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, for the period ending Sept. 22, 2019.
Gaudioso, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound catcher with the baseball team, batted .500 with a staggering slugging percentage of 1.000. The 19-year-old engineering sophomore had seven runs batted in, a home run, two doubles and four runs scored as McGill split their four games last week. He reached base eight times, going 5-for-10 at the plate with a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Downie-Landry, a 5-foot-8 forward with the Martlets hockey team, scored twice and added a pair of assists as McGill swept Queen's and Toronto to capture the Old Four preseason tournament in southern Ontario over the weekend. The 23-year-old psychology senior scored the third goal in a 4-0 win over Queen's on Friday, then notched the winning marker along with a pair of assists in a 5-1 victory over Toronto, Sunday.
