MONTREAL – Matthew Beaudet of Montreal, and Clara Poiré of Blainville, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending, Nov. 21, 2021.
 
Beaudet, a 5-foot-9, 145-pound distance runner in his first year with men's cross-country team, finished seventh of 130 entrants overall to earn All-Canadian status at the U SPORTS national championship on the Plains of Abraham, Saturday. The 21-year-old electrical engineering sophomore completed the eight-kilometre course in 24 minutes, 47.5 seconds. Beaudet, the RSEQ individual champion, finished 20 seconds behind the race winner.
 
Poiré, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter on the women’s volleyball team, scored a game-high 17 points as first-place McGill cruised to a 3-0 sweep over Ottawa at the Minto Sports Complex in the nation's capital, last Friday. The 22-year-old science junior in kinesiology racked up 16 kills and a pair of assisted blocks, in addition to 10 digs on defence and a passing ratio of 1.80. Poiré is a product of College Lionel-Groulx who enrolled at McGill in 2019.
