Ling broke two school records
, won three gold medals and added a silver to capture athlete-of-the-meet honours as the McGill women's swim team claimed the first Quebec Cup competition of the season at the CEPSUM pool, last Friday. In her first meet ever with McGill, the 19-year-old civil engineering sophomore won gold in the 50m backstroke (28.90), the 100 freestyle (55.94) and the 4x50 free relay (1:44.70), which broke a school record, surpassing the previous mark of 1:45.41 set in 2016. Ling, who was second in the 50 butterfly (27.72), also broke a 28-year-old school record in the 50 free, registering a time of 25.47 seconds while leading off the 200 free relay. That clipped the 1993 McGill record (25.55) set by Olympian Andrea Nugent. Ling previously attended Westmount Charter School in Calgary and is a product of the University of Calgary Swim Club.
Beaudet, a 5-foot-9, 145-pound distance runner, finished first of 85 entries as the McGill men's cross-country squad edged out Laval by one point to place first of nine schools at the Sherbrooke Invitational on Sunday, the team's first meet victory since 2015. The 21-year-old electric engineering sophomore completed the eight-kilometre course in 24 minutes, 53 seconds, to become the team's first male to win a race since 2017. Beaudet finished 4.4 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. A product of Marianopolis College, he competed for the St. Laurent Selects, a club program, prior to enrolling at McGill in 2020.
