MONTREAL -- Victoria Iannotti of St. Laurent, Que., and Owen Cumming of Toronto are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 17, 2021.
 
Iannotti, a 5-foot-8 power-hitter with the women’s volleyball team, led McGill to a 3-1 season-opening victory at UQTR on Sunday. In her first career start, the 22-year-old software engineering junior racked up 16 kills in just four sets. She added a pair of service aces, 2.5 stuff blocks and also contributed three digs on defence. Iannotti enrolled at McGill in 2019 out of College Bois-de-Boulogne.
 
Cumming, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound scrum-half with the men’s rugby team,, scored a game-high nine points as McGill defeated Bishop's 24-9 in Lennoxville last Friday to take sole possession of first-place with a 4-1 record in the RSEQ standings. The 21-year-old political science senior put McGill ahead 7-0 at the eight-minute mark after scoring and converting his own try, a six-yard run. He then upped the score to 14-0 with another try in the 38th minute. Cumming now ranks second among the league's leading try scorers with five and moved into the team scoring lead with 34 points overall. He enrolled at McGill in 2019 from Shawnigan Lake School.
