MONTREAL – Dana Silerova of Terrasse Vaudreuil, Que., and Pearce Dumay of Montreal, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 1, 2019.

Silerova, a 5-foot-7 fullback on the women's rugby team, tallied 15 points as visiting McGill rallied for a 25-22 thriller over Bishop's in the season-opener, Sunday. It marked the Martlets first win in almost two years, dating back to a victory over Bishop's on Oct. 6, 2017, ending an 0-7-1 winless streak. The 22-year-old geology junior scored a pair of tries, along with a penalty kick and one conversion. Silerova put the Martlets ahead 3-0 on a penalty kick at the 11-minute mark and just 10 minutes later, added a try to make it 8-0. Silerova responded with another try late in the opening half to regain the lead for McGill at 13-12. She then converted on winning try with six minutes remaining in the game.

Dumay, a 5-foot-7, 176-pound wide receiver on the football team,  scored two early touchdowns and collected a career-high 119 yards on six receptions as McGill defeated Concordia 40-14 to open their 119th season last Friday in the annual Shaughnessy Cup rivalry game. The 23-year-old physical education junior gave McGill a 7-0 lead with a 23-yard TD reception at 3:25 of the first quarter. He added a 19-yard TD catch at 3:35 of the second quarter to put his troops ahead 19-1. Dumay also added one kickoff return for 42 yards and was credited with a rushing play for one yard.
