MONTREAL – Sasha Lagarde of Pierrefonds, Que., and Tia Lore of Richmond, B.C., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 21, 2018.

Lagarde, a six-foot, 220-pound centre-fielder with the baseball Redmen, was named as the tournament's most valuable player as McGill won all five games to capture their fifth consecutive national championship, in Ottawa over the weekend.  The 27-year-old education senior registered a sizzling .467 batting average, with seven hits in 15 at bats. He scored 11 runs, collected nine RBIs over the five games, drew five walks, was hit by a pitch once and had a pair of stolen bases. Over his baseball career, Lagarde has now helped eight different teams win major championships, including three with McGill (2018, 2017, 2016).

Lore, a 5-foot-7 striker with the soccer Martlets, scored two winning goals as McGill defeated Bishop's 1-0 and UQAM 2-0 last Friday and Sunday, respectively. The 21-year old sociology senior tallied the only marker, just seconds before the final whistle (90+ minutes) at a road game against the Gaiters last Friday. Two days later, she netted the winner in the seventh minute of play against the Citadins. the two victories clinched the fourth and final playoff berth for McGill in the RSEQ standings.
