MONTREAL -- Swimmers Samuel Wang of Sherbrooke, Que., and Jessica Warrack of Calgary are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 4, 2018.

Wang, a 5-foot-10, 153-pound all-star sprinter, tied a meet high with six medals at the RSEQ championships in Sherbrooke, Feb. 2-4. The 22-year biochemistry sophomore won four golds, a pair of bronzes and was part of several relay records while leading McGill to their first men's title since 2003. His weekend haul included race victories in the 50-metre butterfly (24.09 seconds) and the 100 fly (53.84), in addition to the 4x50 and the 4x100 medley relays.  The 4x50m MR was clocked at 1:40.02, breaking the RSEQ record (1:40.36) and the McGill record (1:43.03). In addition, the school's six-year old record in the 4x100 medley relay fell in a time of 3:40.23, smashing the old mark of 3:42.06, which had been in the McGill books since 2012. Wang wrapped up his weekend by collecting a pair of bronze medals -- in the 50 and 100 backstrokes. Over the entire season, he produced 20 gold medal finishes and two bronzes in 22 race finals.

Warrack, a 21-year-old chemical engineering senior, reached the podium six times at the RSEQ championships, leading McGill to a second-place finish. She won one gold, a pair of silvers and three bronze medals to merit conference all-star status. The 5-foot-4 medley specialist finished first in the 400 individual medley (4:52.81). She helped two relays finish second, including the 4x100 MR (4:16.66) and the 4x200 free (8:21.57). Her third-place finishes came in the 200 butterfly (2:22.38), the 200 IM (2:21.08) and the 400 free (4:21.63). Warrack is a product of the National Sport School in Calgary and previously swam for the Killarney Swim Club.
