MONTREAL -- Katia Clément-Heydra of St. Bruno, Que., and Vincent Dufort of Smiths Falls, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 25. 2012. They were also selected as Quebec weekly award winners by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
Clément-Heydra a 5-foot-7 centre with the hockey Martlets, scored points on six of the team's seven goals, including a hat-trick as No.1-ranked McGill defeated Carleton 7-1 in Ottawa last Saturday. The 23-year-old industrial relations junior tallied points on McGill's first three goals, assisting on the game-winner -- and on the last three markers. Her first goal put the Martlets ahead 3-1 at 5:58 of the second stanza and she netted the last two goals of the contest, connecting at 4:15 and 9:52 of the final period. She joined the Martlets in 2010 after skating for College Edouard-Montpetit.
Dufort, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard with the basketball Redmen, registered a "double-double" as No.4-ranked McGill rallied from a 10-point deficit to edge Concordia 69-68 before a packed house at the Concordia gym, Saturday. The 20-year-old physical education sophomore scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in 34 minutes of court-time. He shot 12-for-18 from the floor, including a 1-for-2 effort from three-point range. Dufort kicked it up a gear down the stretch, scoring 13 of his points after Concordia took a 10-point lead with 8:41 remaining. He also had a pair of assists, one steal, a blocked shot and scored the winning basket, which gave his side a 69-65 lead on a jumper with 51 seconds remaining. Dufort is a product of Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
