MONTREAL – Soccer player Chloe Renaud from St. Hubert, Que., and golfer Adley Abols, a native of Toronto, are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Sept. 1, 2024.
Renaud, a 5-foot-5 midfielder with the Martlets, scored two game-winning goals last week as the Martlets opened their regular season with a 1-0 upset over the Montreal Carabins on Aug. 30, followed by a 3-0 shutout over UQAM on Sept. 1. A 21-year-old Arts junior majoring in psychology, she tallied her decisive markers in the 78th minute against the Carabins and the 17th minute against UQAM, respectively. Renaud is a two-time RSEQ conference all-star since joining the university ranks in 2022 out of Champlain College in St. Lambert, Que.
Abols, a 17-year-old management freshman, became the first male golfer in McGill history to register a hole-in-one, to highlight the RSEQ conference's season-opening Omnium 1 Tournament at the Milby Golf Club in Sherbrooke, Aug. 26-27. His magic shot came on the third and final round of the two-day tourney. Abols used his nine-iron to sink a 149-yard drive into the wind on the sixth hole. A recruit from Royal St George's College School, Abols shot rounds of 78, 83 and 78, to finish with a 20-over par 239. In a field of 63 entries, only two golfers broke par in the tournament which was played in difficult conditions on a hilly course.
