MONTREAL – Swimmers
Pablo Collin of Marseille (France) and
Naomie Lo of Toronto, have been named McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending March 10, 2024.
Collin, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound distance specialist, won two gold medals and a silver, as McGill ended up third of 28 teams at the U SPORTS swim championships in Pointe Claire, Que., March 7-9. The 22-year-old computer science junior reached the A finals in four of his six events and scored 81 of his team's points in the standings. He won the 200-metre freestyle (1:51.76) and swam a spectacular second leg of the winning 4x200 freestyle relay, where McGill rallied from fourth-place to end up first (7:32.29). Collin also helped the 4x100 freestyle relay finish second (3:23.73). He helped the 4x200 freestyle relay finish fourth (8:33.26), was sixth in the 200 free (2:06.48), seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:23.30) and 12th in the 800 free (9:12.28)..
Lo, a 5-foot-2 distance specialist, won a silver medal as the Martlets placed fourth of 28 teams at the U SPORTS swim championships in Pointe Claire, March 7-9. A 21-year-old science junior, majoring in software engineering, she reached the A finals in four of her five events and made the B finals in another, to account for 95.5 points in the team scoring. She was second in the 400 freestyle (2:06.48), fourth in the 4x200 freestyle relay (8:33.26), sixth in the 200 free (2:06.48), seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:33.30) and was 12th in the 800 free (9:12.28). Lo enrolled at McGill in 2021 out of York Mills Collegiate Institute.
