MONTREAL – Zach Bye of Greenwich, Conn., and Megan Kronwald of Gatineau, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Sept. 15, 2024.
Bye, a 20-year-old Arts freshman, scored a combined eight goals in less than 24 hours – including six in one game – and assisted on another as the McGill men's lacrosse team defeated Queen's 8-5 at home on Saturday night and outlasted Carleton 11-8 in Ottawa on Sunday afternoon. The 6-foot-2, 202-pound attackman scored a half-dozen goals in a wild 11-8 victory over the Ravens on Sunday. The previous night, he tallied twice, including the game-winner, and was credited with one assist, in a victory over Queen's. Bye enrolled at McGill this semester after graduating from The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., and completing a semester of grad studies at The Hill Academy in Caledon, Ont.
Kronwald, a 21-year-old accounting sophomore, scored a natural hat-trick as the McGill women's hockey team opened preseason play with a 4-1 road victory over Carleton in the nation's capital last Thursday. It marked the first career goals at the university level for Kronwald, a 5-foot-6 forward who had one assist in 29 games overall during her freshman year. She opened the scoring on a power-play at 9:03 of the first period, then gave the Martlets a two-goal cushion with the eventual game-winner at 18:41. Kronwald, who was recruited out of College Andre-Larendeau, put McGill ahead 3-0 at 12:09 of the second period.
McGill athlete of the week award recipients receive a gift certificate from Restaurant Poulet Rouge, serving healthy and balanced meals since 2017.
