MONTREAL --
Jared Kersh of South Salem, N.Y., and
Meggie Dargis of Trois-Rivières, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 8, 2017.
Kersh, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound third baseman with the baseball Redmen, had six runs batted in and an .833 batting average as McGill swept their best-of-three semifinal playoff series against the Ottawa Gee-Gees last Saturday, winning both ends of doubleheader by 11-1 and 10-0 scores. In the two games, the 19-year-old economics sophomore had five hits in six at bats, with a pair of doubles, one walk and three runs scored.
Dargis, a 5-foot-2 distance runner with the Martlets cross-country team, led McGill to a second-place finish among 12 teams at the RSEQ-AUS interlocking meet hosted by Universite Laval last Saturday on the Plains of Abraham near Quebec City. The 21-year-old finance junior completed the eight-kilometre course in 29 minutes, 11.3 seconds to win silver in the 132-runner field, finishing 11 seconds off the winning time.
