Guillaume Gauthier of Ste. Marthe sur le Lac, Que., and
Alex Kiss-Rusk of Beaconsfield, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 19, 2017.
Gauthier, a 21-year-old physical education freshman with the hockey Redmen, scored four points, including three goals, as McGill swept a pair of quarter-final playoff games over Laurentian last week to sweep the best-of-three series. The 5-foot-10, 196-pound left-winger scored once and assisted on the overtime winner in a 2-1 decision at Sudbury on Feb. 15. He then added a pair of goals, including the winner in a 7-2 decision at home on Feb. 18
Kiss-Russ, a 6-foot-4 centre with the basketball Martlets, scored 31 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as McGill split a pair of home games last week. losing 58-53 versus Concordia on Feb. 16 and winning 73-50 over Bishop's on Feb. 18. The 22-year-old psychology junior added four blocked shots and four assists. She shot a lofty 53.8 per cent from the floor (14/26) and sank all three of her free-throw attempts.
