MONTREAL -- Gabrielle Davidson of Pte. Claire, Que., and Vincent Dufort of Smiths Falls, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 14, 2016.

Davidson, a 5-foot-4 forward with the hockey Martlets, scored three of McGill’s four goals in a pair of come-from-behind victories as No.3-ranked McGill rallied to defeat Concordia 3-2 on the road last Friday, then edged No.8 Ottawa 2-1 in a post-overtime shootout at home on Sunday. That result clinched second place ahead of the Gee-Gees. Trailing 2-0 at Concordia, the 22-year-old finance senior scored the final two goals, netting the equalizer with a rocket-like shot at 18:45 in the second period. She then buried the game-winner under the crossbar at 7:21 of the third. Against Ottawa the next day, Davidson tied the game at 12:54 of the second period, to force overtime. She has scored 11 goals in her last 12 contests and ranks fifth in the RSEQ scoring race with a 12-5-17 record in 19 league games. A product of Dawson College, she joined the Martlets in 2012.

Dufort, a 6-foot-4, 197-pound shooting-guard with the basketball Redmen, registered a “double-double” as eighth-ranked McGill defeated Concordia 53-44 in a hard-fought battle between two of the nation’s top defences, to regain first place in RSEQ conference at the Concordia Gym on Saturday.  The23-year-old physical education senior, scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds, including 10 in the defensive zone. He saw 36 minutes of court time, shot 6-for-15 from the floor, 2-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc and was credited with a pair of assists. Dufort is averaging 9.4 points per game and leads the RSEQ in rebounding with 8.0 average. Prior to attending McGill in 2010, he graduated from Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute.
