MONTREAL --
Sebastien Boyer, a rugby player from the Town of Mt. Royal, Que., and the sychronized swim duo of
Mara Bender from Waterloo, Ont., and
Mathilde Warren of Albany, N.Y., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 22, 2015.
Boyer, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound member of the rugby Redmen, was named game MVP as McGill rallied for a 10-9 victory over the Montreal Carabins to capture the RSEQ championship last Friday. Boyer, celebrated his 21st birthday in style, scoring a last-second try which led to the winning conversion by Thomas Stokes on the final play. Boyer took a lateral pitchout from the scrum, zig-zagged eight yards through a throng of players and dove across the goal-line. An economics freshman who plays on the back row, he was also announced last week as RSEQ rugby rookie of the year.
Bender and Warren teamed up to strike gold in both of their events to help the Martlets win the McGill Invitational synchro meet last Saturday. Bender, a 20-year-old physics and English Literature junior and Warren, a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in international development studies, finished atop the podium in both the team routine and the duet routine, scoring 65.67 and 66.33 points, respectively.
