MONTREAL –
Anders Bjella of Milwaukee, Wisc., and
Catherine Amyot of Montreal are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 8, 2015.
Bjella, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound midfielder with the lacrosse Redmen, scored nine goals in two games as McGill defeated Brock 7-5 in a semifinal last Saturday and Western in the gold medal game, Sunday, to capture the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association championship in Lennoxville, Que. The 22-year-old management senior and co-captain saved his best for his final game in a McGill uniform, with a spectacular seven-goal performance in the championship contest to merit player of the game honours. He is a product of Whitefish Bay high school in Milwaukee.
Amyot, a 5-foot-10 power-hitter with the volleyball Martlets, scored 33.5 points over seven sets as McGill swept Laval 3-0 at home last Friday, then rallied to defeat Sherbrooke 3-1 on the road, Sunday, improving their perfect record to 7-0 in the RSEQ conference. The 21-year-old materials engineering senior totaled 27 kills, five aces and 1.5 stuff blocks, to go along with 29 digs on defence. She joined the Martlets in 2012 out of École secondaire Louis-Riel.
