MONTREAL --
Melanie Myrand from Lachine, Que., and
Augustus Hill, a native of Bristol, in England, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 4, 2015.
Myrand, a distance runner with the Martlets cross-country team, was first of 107 women at the Laval Invitational Interlocking Meet between the Atlantic and Quebec conferences, held on the Plains of Abraham, Saturday. The 5-foot-3 senior crossed the finish line of the six-kilometre race in 21 minutes, 53 seconds, helping McGill finish second in the team scoring. Her winning time was almost nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. A product of John Abbott College, Myrand graduated from McGill with a science degree in 2010 but returned last year to pursue a master's degree.
Hill, a 20-year-old exchange student with the Redmen rugby team, scored 24 points as McGill defeated the Piranhas from L'École de technologie supérieure 74-5 at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday. The 6-foot, 175-pound fullback collected three tries, a penalty kick and three conversions. He is on exchange from Newcastle University, where he also plays with the varsity field hockey team while studying mathematics and economics.
McGill athletes of the week receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
