MONTREAL -- Santiago Bessai from Toronto and Caroline Suchorski of Kirkland, Que, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Sept. 13, 2015.

Bessai, a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in English, finished atop the podium and led the Redmen cross-country team to their first McGill Open meet title in 13 years at Mt. Royal Park, Saturday. The 5-foot-10, 145-pound distance runner completed the looping six-kilometre course in 20 minutes, 12 seconds to finish first of 248 runners entered. His time was 10 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Prior to enrolling at McGill last year, Bessai graduated from the Etobicoke School of the Arts.

Suchorski, a 5-foot-7 centre with the rugby Martlets, scored three tries in the second half as McGill rallied from an 18-10 deficit with less than 30 minutes remaining and roared back for a 38-18 road victory over Sherbrooke, Saturday. A 23-year-old nutritional science senior who majors in dietetics, Suchorski tallied her hat-trick with tries in the 46th, 51st and 58th minutes to spark the comeback. The fifth-year veteran is a product of John Abbott College and the Quebec women's senior team.

McGill athletes of the week receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
